COPD Rehab Services

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a blanket term covering two lung diseases – chronic bronchitis and emphysema, both characterized by obstruction of the airways to normal airflow, thereby interfering with breathing. COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in America, with the number of women seen in men. Smoking is the primary risk factor for COPD, causing about 80-90 percent of COPD deaths.

Living Better with COPD
There are many ways that you and your health care provider can work together to manage the symptoms of COPD and improve your quality of life.

  • Medications
  • Pulmonary Rehabilitation helps you to manage your disease with physical activity and counseling
  • Physical Activity Training teaches activities to help strengthen your arms and legs and/or breathing exercises to strengthen the muscle needed for breathing
  • Lifestyle Changes, such as quitting smoking
  • Oxygen Treatment
  • Surgery

Should these techniques not improve a COPD patient’s symptoms, drug treatments, inhalers, and pulmonary rehabilitation and therapy services may be an option. In these cases, American Angel’s qualified COPD support specialist will recommend further treatment as necessary.
